Пол Маккартни е роден на 18 май 1942 година в Ливърпул, Англия. Майка му е медицинска сестра, баща му е продавач и музикант в Jim Mac's Jazz Band. Именно от него наследява и любовта към музиката. Учи в родния си град до 1960 година.

На 14-годишна възраст майка му почива от рак на гърдата, а шокът става и причина да напише първата си песен. През 1957 година среща Джон Ленън, който по това време вече има своя група - "Тhe Quarrymen". Впечатлен от уменията на Пол с бас китарата, Ленън го кани в бандата, в която са още Стю Сътклиф (китара) и Пийт Бест (ударни инструменти). По-късно тя се преименува на Бийтълс. Първоначално свирят предимно на обществени мероприятия и сватби, след което следват няколко гастрола в Хамбург в различни клубове.

През 1962 година обаче Стю Сътклиф умира от кръвоизлив на мозъка. Предполага се, че това е вследствие на сбиване в Германия. Именно с гастролите там обаче Бийтълс си спечелват популярност и в Лондон. През септември 1962 година излиза сингълът Love me do, който се изкачва до 17-място в калсациите във Великобритания. Окуражени от успеха Бийтълс пускат и албум - Please Please me. ПИйт Бест обаче напуска групата, а Ленън и Маккартни успяват да убедят други две имена да се присъединят към тях - Джордж Харисън (китара) и Ринго Стар (ударни). С това групата добива и окончателния си вид. Оттук насетне започва невероятното изкачване по стълбата на успеха на ливърпулската четворка, а Маккартни има сериозна заслуга за това.

Той написва над 50 хита (Hey, Jude, Yesterday, Let it be, които и до днес се сочат като едни от най-добрите песни в съвременната история на музиката), като работи и за Бийтълс и самостоятелно, изявява се и като басист, певец пианист, а дори понякога и като барабанист. След разпадането на Бийтълс през 1970 година Пол Маккартни остава и единственият, който продължава да се занимава успешно с музика. Той създава своя нова група - Wings, с която създава нови хитове в САЩ и Великобритания.

Отделно от това работи и самостоятелно като певец и композитор. Днес Маккартни продължава да е звезда от сериозна величина, като наскоро получи и награда "Брит" за цялостен принос към световната музика. Освен това е и първият музикант в света, чието състояние възлиза на над един милиард долара.

 

Личен живот:

 

Дълги години Пол Маккартни се радваше на щастлив брак със сочената за една от най-добрите фотографки в света - Линда. Двамата бяха женени до смъртта й от рак на гърдата през 1998 година (от същата болест умира и майка му), като през това време двамата станаха родители на 4 деца - Стела, Хедър, Мери и Джеймс. Година по-късно музикантът срещна бившата манекенка - Хедър Милс, чийто крак бе ампутиран през 1993, след като бе прегазена от мотор.

Въпреки негативното отношение от страна на децата му той се ожени за нея през 2002 година на скромна церемония в Ирландия. Бракът обаче просъщестува само 4 години, въпреки че за това време тя го дари и с дъщеричка - Беатрис. Милс се оказа бивша порнозвезда, а и любовта между двамата трая твърде кратка. През 2008 година двойката се разведе, като тя получи 55 милиона евро.
