Кейт Бланшет е родена на 14 май 1969 в Мелбърн, Австралия. Завършва Австралийския национален институт за драматично изкуство и веднага след дипломирането си през 1992 започва работа в театъра.

През следващите години трупа опит на сцената в компанията на Джефри Ръш и Ноа Тейлър. Участва и в куп телевизионни сериали, но без особен успех. Първата й запомняща се роля е в "Път към рая" (1997) на Брус Бересфорд.

Следващата година е знакова за кариерата й - тя получава ролята на английската кралица Елизабет и с изпълнението си убеждава всички в безспорния си талант. Кейт получава и номинация за Оскар за тази си роля.

Следват не по-малко забележителни изпълнения - в "Талантливият м-р Рипли", "Бандити", в превърналата се в абсолютен хит трилогия на Питър Джаксън "Властелинът на пръстените".

Филмовата академия обаче я оценява истински едва през 2005 година, когато за участието си в "Авиаторът" и ролята на Катрин Хепбърн (в лентата си партнира с Леонардо ди Каприо) получава най-ценното филмово отличие.





По-късно следват нови три номинации - за "Записки по един скандал" (2007), "Не съм там "(2008) и за втората част на Елизабет - "Златния век" (2008). Дори и без тях обаче Кейт Бланшет вече е получила признанието на Холивуд и кинолюбителите по света.

Личен живот:


От 1997 година е омъжена за режисьора Андрю Ъптън, с когото имат и три деца. Бракът им се счита за един от най-стабилните във филмовите среди.
